Red Monochrome Outfit

Happy Monday, guys! I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for spring! Which is why I can proudly say this will be the last ‘wintry’ post of the season! Decided to spice things up and bring you a full red monochrome look, where I’m literally decked out in nothing but the bold color aside from my sunglasses. I loved styling this so much, I’m considering doing another monochrome look for spring. Would you guys like to see that soon? In the meantime, check out this look to get your heart pumping with spring fever! I can feel it in the air, the warmer season is just around the corner! So say one last goodbye to the teddy coat trend. :)

I definitely took this cozy teddy with me across the pond during London Fashion Week as it was still pretty chilly. Thankfully wore it on the most rainy day where I was also quite sick. (See the look HERE - where I resemble V8 juice LOL) Don’t you love pieces from your closet that feel like a blanket? Ultimate comfort! The Karen Red Teddy Borg Longline Coat features teddy borg material, longline design, long sleeves, collar and button up detailing. It’s quite versatile in terms of styling. Easily could be paired with jeans and a t-shirt, or a LBD, and more! If you live in colder areas in the states, I highly recommend this coat as you can wear it a lot more before putting it away until the fall season. Most teddy coats are of neutral/beige tones, so I love having a more vibrant-colored one. The coat definitely stands out amongst a crowd!

To go with the red teddy coat, I styled it with the Maya - a large shoulder bag in a red design with a lightening bolt press stud. It has a chain strap and front flap to secure valuables. Their Paul's Boutique logo is embossed on the front. What I love most about this bag in particular is it’s size. It has so much space you can fit a laptop, phone, battery charger, notebooks, and more! It’s perfect for every day. Other accessories include red Chelsea boots from Teleport Shoes and my favorite Korean sunglass brand, Accrue.

Last but not least are a pair of red skinny jeans. Even wide leg trousers would go well with this look, so long as it is still red ;) What do you guys think of this red monochrome outfit? Would you have styled it in a different way? Perhaps with some red sunnies? Love hearing your feedback - drop those comments down in the section below! (End of post) Have a wonderful week and I’ll catch you all back on here very soon! xx

5 Reasons Why You Should Take a Social Media Break

When I first was building MaQ + Suz, which I still am, times have changed in the past three years. And even though I have remained consistent throughout this time, it has come to my realization now more than ever that as a creative person, it is vital to my well-being to un-plug from the social media world. I’m constantly on it for work, and lately the daily cycle of cranking out content has felt like it’s never-ending and yes, everyone can burn out! When everything is all about instant-gratification these days, I still think it’s completely acceptable to take a detox/break from something that isn’t always necessarily beneficial to you. As much as I love to share my life on social media, I also can really appreciate when to say no to certain things when it comes to what I do for a living. So in today’s post I’m sharing 5 reasons why you should take a social media break from time to time. Continue reading for more.

1. IT HELPS YOU SET BOUNDARIES

For many of us, social media can feel like an anxiety-fueled space, and it’s up to us to decide when to say enough is enough and not let any form of negativity into our personal space. Even on an everyday basis, I try and restrict myself to about 2 hours of social media postings and scrolling. But by setting a daily routine like a time limit of my time on my phone and taking mini-breaks even this way can be the healthiest boundary you set for yourself , which is the ultimate form of self-care. This weekend, I forbade myself from posting on social media, no matter how guilty I felt not doing so. I am exhausted, sick (migraine all day Sunday) and in need of recuperating from my job where there are literally no days off. And you know what? It led to learning other reasons why this is great to do every so often. (or as much as you like… you are your own boss, no?)

2. GET YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING

Whenever I really start to feel burnt out, I will go off the grid for a couple of days. I also have a tendency to do this when I’m suffering from writer’s block. This doesn’t bring forth my creativity per se, but you’d be amazed how great you’d feel after a full weekend of rest and just doing things you love to do, like read a book, go to the museum, have a phone call with a friend, taking a long walk with my dog, these mini-breaks not only take my mind off and recharge my batteries, it is then when these types of activities help influence my creativity. Sometimes freeing the mind and not trying to think so hard about the next amazing photo shoot actually will bring the next amazing photo shoot. Trust in the retreat your mind and body absolutely need to take every now and then.

3. RECLAIM YOUR TIME

You know you can’t buy back time, but you can reclaim it. With Apple iOS 12's “Screen Time” feature, you can track your social media usage. I'm currently using this tool and discovered that I could have likely read Murakami’s new novel in the time I spent scrolling Instagram last week. YIKES. Which in turn gives you more time for other things in your life aside from social media. Because I guarantee this is not the most important part of life by any means... it doesn’t define you as a person. Life is short. Spend it wisely.

4. KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE

Others’ comments or who has viewed your Insta-stories, or what’s currently trending… Yet another distraction when it comes to social media. It all leads to nowhere. I always remind myself why I started the blog in the first place. And I think the immense desire to someone’s “15 minutes of fame” is more and more outweighing the desire to create quality content and/or visual story-telling. So when whatever I see online all starts to become white noise and very little is inspiring me, it’s time to take a breather from the overly saturated social media world. When I de-tach myself from it temporarily, it always brings me back to where I started and why. Which is really important if you want to continue visualizing the big picture, too. Remember why you started.

5. RECONNECT AND COME BACK STRONGER

This kind of coincides with number 2 in this post. But this is more about our inner work. As I just said, social media is not the definition to life, nevertheless, it doesn’t define you. It’s a brand, a label, a front to what really is reality. Because in the world of advertising, not everything is ever the complete truth. And the same goes with what I do. Every photo is staged. Choreographed with makeup, hair, clothes, location, a lens, etc to end the final result with a quality image and a story behind it. It’s simply never just a snap. So when it comes to comparing yourself to others, for example, be clear about your goals and do the self-work IRL to come out confident; it will help curb the anxiety that the Instagram comparison game creates. Focusing on other parts of your life aside from social media/work isn’t just a simple “distraction” from the other not so glamorous side to what I do, it’s always a resetter. It helps me regroup and reconnect with loved ones and yes, myself. Sometimes a little self-care goes a long way, and if you’re feeling a bit unsure about what you’re doing online, it’s time to take a step back and regroup, reset and reconnect. And in the long run, you will always come back stronger. Remember this too… social media isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I Lilac Like That

THIS POST IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY W. CASHMERE.

NYC fashion blogger

Happy Tuesday! I’m back at it with another color clash when it comes to fall/winter colors! You guys really seemed to dig the last one on blue & pink (Link here) and since I’ve been loving it myself, why not?! :) So without further ado, let’s get talking about the color choice of the day, it’s not exactly lavender, nor is it violet, but lilac! And the feature of today’s outfit post is a gorgeous cashmere turtleneck sweater… in lilac! Come check out how I styled this piece along with where to shop everything.

Meticulously crafted with ultra-premium cashmere, W. Cashmere’s timeless essential is a winter wardrobe must-have. Top off any seasonal look with this modern take on the timeless turtleneck sweater.  A contemporary relaxed fit pairs with a classic silhouette and super soft cashmere knit for a luxurious appeal that looks and feels great. Perfect for wearing with anything in your closet, this piece is destined to become your new go-to sweater. And did I mention it’s the softest cashmere I’ve touched to date?!

I contrasted the soft lilac with more vibrant colors such as red, orange and even, neon! But the neon is very subtle with just a pop of it on the side of my favorite oversized handbag. The red Chelsea boots are super comfy to walk in let alone how they look. And the orange is within a leather wristband of a watch, one by a luxury Parisian-brand you all need to know about called Michel Herbelin. I never thought I’d own an orange watch, but how unbelievably chic is this one… can you blame me?

Lastly, I’ve styled this leopard print dress before. But it was across the pond, in London during fashion week. (Link here) During the fall/winter season, I really love to layer and make the most out of my closet. When I had posted a teaser of this post on Instagram last week, many thought it to be a skirt! Layering game success! Lolol. I cinched the cashmere sweater just a bit to give it a more ‘crop’ like feeling, to bring more of a silhouette to my petite frame. Like this look and want to lilac like that? Ha ha! Drop your comment down in the section below!

Casual Date Night Outfit That Doesn't Involve a Dress

WEARING: CHICWISH SPARKLY TWEED COAT | FOREVER 21 FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS | EGO OTK BOOTS | PAUL’S BOUTIQUE LONDON CORNELIA BAG

THIS POST IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY CHICWISH AND PAUL’S BOUTIQUE LONDON.

Happy Monday, folks! This post is for all the tomboys out there who are not that crazy about playing dress up, or more rather dresses either. Not that I’m completely against dresses, but I’m just much more of a jeans/pants type of gal. I have been this way since I was a child. And I know a lot of other girls who’s style is similar - not prissy by any means. So how can you rock a casual date night look that doesn’t involve a dress? Continue reading to learn how leggings with a tweed coat can dazzle your date along with feeling completely like yourself and best of all, comfy!

I know, I know. Many of you are probably already doubting leggings with a simple fall/winter coat would be enough to sparkle up a look, especially one for date night. But I just don’t think when it comes to women’s style, that a dress should always be the answer. What if it’s your first date and you want a casual look that says you’re not trying too hard? As if you effortlessly put this outfit together and even though it’s not fancy it’s still chic af? We all want that wow factor for our dates, regardless if we’ve been married for years or are in a new relationship. Well, look no further with this flickering attraction double breasted tweed coat by Chicwish! Only $62 and a complete Chanel dupe (hey, I’m not mad about it), it’s my new favorite day-to-night outerwear.

This coat looks fantastic with just about anything. And it’s versatile enough to wear it at the office all day and then straight to your dinner date. I could wear this coat with jeans, a skirt of many different colors and perhaps other textures such as tweed or silk, it would also look amazing with wide legs, trousers and yes, even a dress. But given that your girl loves to mix certain styles together, I chose posh with rebel rocker chic, my go to for an overall confidence boost. Tell me you don’t feel more bad ass in leather, faux or pas.

I say a good way to add that extra sparkle to impressing your date is a great makeup look. Nothing to the extreme, (hey if that is your thing, no judgment) but a good eye-popping color effect to attract attention to certain features of your face, such as your lips, cheeks, eyes. The power of makeup is to accentuate/enhance your natural features. So in this look, since I loved the small tints of purple and pinks from the coat, I went for a fuchsia pinky makeup look. I think these kind of pinks are great for olive-tone skins and brown eyes. What do you guys think of the makeup here?

To balance the mixture of posh and rock, I went with over-the-knee black boots from one of my favorite UK shoe brands, EGO. And I love my new shoulder bag from Paul’s Boutique London. The different textures go well with the tweed and faux leather leggings, and what is also great is the handle of the bag, which has spiked detail studs along the shoulder area, which keeps with the edginess to this look. What do you guys think of this date night outfit? Too edgy for you? Would you wear it?

Black and White Tweed Blazer for Fall

WEARING: BANANA REPUBLIC FACTORY BLAZER | ZARA TOP | JOE'S JEANS | EGO PEEP TOE MULE | PAUL'S BOUTIQUE LONDON BAG

THIS POST IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY BANANA REPUBLIC FACTORY & EGO SHOES

Hi! How is everyone doing? Ready for fall? Ready to go back to school? Are you just... ready? You've heard it here on the blog first, the next few weeks will be filled with Fashion Month content. I'm still working on my August beauty favorites, but being that last month was kind of major in terms of reviewing beauty products, my post is delayed due to this but I promise it's coming soon on top of other favorites! Let's just say in terms of content, it'll be just as thick as the Vogue September issue! LOL. In today's post, I'm sharing with you my fall staple favorites: Cozy, fitted jeans, a kick-ass blazer, and a good pair of mules. A very minimal, chic look. Continue reading to see the complete photo shoot and also where to shop these amazing finds!

I attended the opening of a new Banana Republic flagship store in Herald Square (17 W 34th Street) where it is the biggest store in NYC for BR! It has two floors along with two temporary pop-ups, one with 100% Pure Cosmetics and American Designs Club, a platform for creative brands to show, share and sell their work. Definitely worth a stop next time you're in the neighborhood. I found this texture academy blazer on sale for $60! Semi-fitted and tweed-like, the black and white blazer is 50% off and so stylish. I love blazers because you can mix and match it with so many pieces, the versatility is key.

I love the classic casual jeans and a blazer-look. It's like the effortlessly chic Parisian woman who just rolled out of bed, hair disheveled, shirt tucked out of place and yet, she looks lovely in the most imperfect way. I paired the blazer with these Joe's jeans that are not only super comfy but very much in trend with the distressed hem and fitting of the pants. How many of you ladies are also a fan of high-rise pants?

I know technically no white after Labor Day, but how could I resist with these awesome white mules from Ego?! One of my favorite shoe brands from the UK, I knew this pair would outlast the summer and well into fall. How cute would these be with an animal print dress or with leather cropped pants?! Or even a pair of sheer socks, the possibilities are endless! What do you guys think of this rule? In or Out? Yay or Nay? Scroll down to leave your thoughts in our comment box - and to also directly shop the pieces from this post! Have a lovely first week of September, everyone!
