HerStyler — Carrie Bradshaw Curls

Happy Monday! Roughly a year ago, I posted a story about my Inner Katie, a SATC (Sex & the City) reference many will know. Simple, straight-haired girls vs.; wild, curly-haired girls. I'm definitely the latter. Ha ha! Even though I'm half-Asian, my Polish roots are literally in my hair! All joking aside, it's true. Short story: I originally had jet-black straight hair up until around the age of 7 or 8. That's when my hair decided to have a life of its own and went wavy. Ever since then, my hair's texture has been this way. Not that I'm complaining. I'm lucky I'm able to work in different hairstyles. And when, like many other girls, discovered Carrie Bradshaw's fashion sense and her famous, wild curls, I had to give this look a try!

As much as I adore this hairstyle, it has always taken me up to at least an hour to do. But not anymore. That's why I've partnered with HerStyler, a wonderful hairline of products, both in haircare and essential tools such as flat irons, curling irons, curling wands and more to give you a simple and easy hair tutorial on how to get 'Mrs. Big's' seamless ringlets! And in less than 20 minutes! I'm really excited to be able to do this look more often now, especially with New York Fashion Week upon us. :)

I started with HerStyler's Argan Oil Complete Hair Care Set, first washing with the shampoo which was rich in lather and soft to the touch. My hair afterward felt ultra clean and weightless. I then applied the intensely nourishing hair mask which repairs and prevents further breakage due to over-processed, dry and damaged hair. Hello, summer heat! The Argan Oil and Panthenol replenish even the most processed hair, resulting in thicker, shinier, and healthier-looking hair. After towel-drying my hair, I applied what is a godsend to any hair fanatic. The Argan Oil Hair Serum is anything but basic. Containing Provitamin E, this serum brings instant shine to any hairstyle. It instantly removes any frizz and wiry, unmanageable hair, by surely controlling, smoothing and shining! Perfect for these kinds of curls. :)

After completely air-drying my hair (I never blow dry unless I have a blowout // *secret alert!), I used HerStyler's Colorful Grande Curler [curling wand 25" (base) 18" (end)] to achieve glamorous-looking curls. Start by dividing hair into two sections, leaving the bottom half down. To begin curling, I grab not too thin and not too thick strands of hair. (Between 1-1.5" in width) Always curl away from the face. I received a heat-protective glove included with the hair tools because it is that searing hot! Be careful as you can easily burn yourself. Like I mentioned before, other curling irons in the past used to have me spend too much time to get this hairdo, but with HerStyler's curling wand, I was able to finish it in twenty minutes! My hair is extra thick, so many hair products in the past would not suffice. Trust me when I tell you this, HerStyler is the way to go, for any hair type! Works wonders while helping you achieve healthier hair while having the liberty to create whatever hairstyle you want! Just check out the results for yourself, like my Before & After pictures above.

To watch the full hair tutorial, check out my YouTube video I made down below! And if you are interested in trying HerStyler, I've got an awesome discount code for you to use at your purchase! Go to www.herstyler.com and get 50% off your order using my code, 'Suz50'. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my tutorial on how to get Carrie's hair style! Stay tuned for more upcoming posts, like an end of the summer refreshment you won't want to miss! I'll be introducing my first 'food styling' video with it! I'm so excited and can't wait to share with you guys! Have a great week everyone! Until next time...

Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Everyday Makeup Tutorial

May 20, 2016

Hi, everyone! Happy Friday! I'm back with another post, weekly video included, and I'm focusing on my everyday makeup! I wanted to show you guys that I do NOT wake up looking like this and it does take a little bit of 'grooming' before I head out the door (unless it's a rollerblade sesh with MaQ).

To be honest, I was hesitant, at first, to show my face to the world without any makeup on, but the reason why I did this is to, one, step out of my comfort zone, and two, to show you a different part of my everyday lifestyle. I'm all about 'sharing the wealth' and 'tricks of the trade.' Nothing is more off-putting than a woman who isn't about this. Prime example? When you complement a woman on something she's wearing and you ask her where she got it from; her answer? 'Uh, gee, I don't really know. It was a gift.' Nice talkin' to ya. Buh-bye.

So today I'm sharing my everyday makeup look and some tips/tricks along the way! Lately, before applying any makeup on, I wash my face with coconut oil. I'll have to do a post on the wonders of coconut oil because it's not only used as a butter substitute but more especially as a beauty regiment! After thoroughly cleansing my face, I apply an ultra moisturizing cream from Kiehl's and then a primer from Hourglass.

Once that sets in after about a minute, I begin with color correcting and foundation. I know a lot of women start with eye makeup, but I do that later, especially with everyday wear. With a Beauty Blender, I apply a BB cream from the Body Shop to even out my skin tone. It's got a really great light coverage with a sheer tint to it. I don't normally use heavier liquid foundation for everyday makeup because my skin is super sensitive and a combination of oily and dry, so I try to keep the coverage to a minimum to let my skin breathe. I use a green color corrector from the Sephora Collection to cover breakouts and acne scars. I continue by buffing in the green with the Beauty Blender, only then using a more high-coverage kind of concealer from Anastasia Beverly Hills. Right now, I'm using a warmer tan-colored concealer in 1.5 because being out and about so much now that the weather's been better, my skin color is starting to change. I again put the concealer over where I put the green corrector on my face, including a little bit under my eyes. Goodbye, dark circles! I then like to use a brightener from Benefit under my eyes down to my dimples, forming a triangular shape. This continues to help with any color correcting.

The next step is contouring. I use L'Oréal Infallible Pro Contour Palette in Medium. The brush that comes with the palette is amazing and really efficient in getting all the contouring in the right place! With my bareMinerals face brush, I complete the contouring with a little bit of blush. I use a coral/peach color from Cargo in Laguna. My last two steps to finish applying face makeup is a creamier highlighter from Benefit called Watt's Up. It's the best highlighter. EVER. Lastly, to set everything in, I use a perfecting powder from New York Color with a No. 2 face brush from Hourglass.

To complete my everyday look, I fill in my brows with an eyebrow palette from the Sephora Collection. I've had it for years and it's the only brow product I use with it comes to perfecting my eyebrows. Sadly, they no longer carry it, hence the no-link. :( I also use a little bit of liquid eyeliner to open up my eyes a bit with L'Oréal's Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner in Carbon Black 591. To brighten the lower lids of my eyes, I use the Naked 2 from Urban Decay in the color 'Verve', which is a wonderful silvery-metallic tone. I never use black eyeliner around the entire eye because it makes your eyes look smaller! BIG no-no! Try using a white color base for the bottom of your eyes to give it that extra pop. For my mascara, I use the Lash Domination by bareMinerals. It's small and compact, and great for travel use. I always curl my lashes with my trusty eyelash curler from Sally Hansen. And last but not least, my lipstick from Almay. Its color is, 'teaberry', but I've had this for so many years, they no longer make it. I love the color so much because it's kind of nude but kind of peachy. It's a great color for my lips as I like to keep my everyday lipstick pretty neutral.

How to Create a Bouquet - How to Arrange Flowers

Yesterday's post was all about me and my mother's style intertwined together. As a two-part story, today I'm writing about the perfect gift idea for Mother's Day. And more specifically, how to create a bouquet and how to arrange flowers while doing so! You see, my mother had the green thumb of the family. Growing up as a kid, I had little to no interest in flowers or gardening. I wondered why my mother loved spending so much time in hers.

But now as an adult, I've become more like my mother and have a huge passion for floral work and design. Anything involving plant life, I'm down for. If my mother was still here, my gift to her would be just the two of us creating bouquets and arranging flowers together. She taught me a lot about flowers and so in today's story I'll be giving you a few pointers on how-to's when it comes to DIY!

  1. Add two kinds of greenery
  2. Fill vase with cold water
  3. Grind 2 aspirin pills to easily dissolve in water (did you know that putting in 2 aspirins in any bouquet will keep your flowers alive longer?) Go ahead and sprinkle that magic in!
  4. Measure flowers, trim to desired height and place in vase
  5. Remove leaves from stems so they aren't in water
  6. Fill in empty spots
  7. And voila!

You can also check out my YouTube video down below for a full tutorial on how to create a bouquet! Thank you so much, Starbright Floral Design, for your gorgeous, intoxicating flowers! I used white and pink lilies, some Holland tulips, eucalyptus, and purple snap dragons. Want to create your own? Use my discount code 'MaQSuz' to get $10 off your purchase from Starbright!

Mother's Day is fastly approaching us and I'm collaborating with Starbright Floral Design for the perfect gift idea to give to all of the momma's of the world; your mother, your baby mama (or mom-to-be). How about instead of ordering bouquets or quickly grabbing them from the market this year, you hand pick and arrange an assorted floral bouquet yourself?! It's thoughtful and straight from the heart - and such a great activity spent with any mother!

Check out my DIY video tutorial, showing how easy (and fun) it is to be working with flowers, including my own bouquet I arranged myself! Want to design your own? Use my discount code 'MaQSuz' to get $10 OFF of your purchase from Starbright Floral Design!
