Coral and Ivory Look

One of the hottest colors trending this summer is the lovely coral pink. But what colors go best with this bold, vibrant hue? And in a modest, elegant way? Sure, colors like gold, teal, turquoise, even navy are great combinations to perfectly blend more rich colors. But I’m not a wedding table top. Ha ha! Loud colors together can be too much sometimes, which is why I chose to style a white shade that I think goes so well with coral. Meet ivory. It’s another color that’s currently happening, which you’ll also see a lot of this fall. Continue on to see how I styled this particular summer look, accessorized with trendy styles while still remaining true to my style.

While ivory is still part of the mix to the coral shade in this look, with the cargo skirt and marble statement earrings, any other white shade even the color, white, is a great color combination with the pink hue of coral. One trendy shoe style this summer? Anything platform. I love these white summer sandals because of this reason. The cute buckle detailing as well plays nicely with the other colors as well as bringing a contrast with the delicate cami top.

Another trend in accessories this summer are straw handbags. To be honest, they are always on point during this season. They complement with many summer looks - and I have nothing but love for them. This bag is a combination between two different brands. The straw crossbody is from Teddy Ondo Ella, when I had attended their show a couple of years ago during NYMFW and received the bag as a gift. They no longer make them, which is something I also love because it feels more like one of a kind. The chain strap is from a Korean handbag brand, Gu De. I styled the chain with the straw bag to give it a nice mixture amongst everything else. California Girl at Heart

This week on the blog I shared my five ways to style a white shirt dress (here) where many of you chimed in on the yellow blazer outfit/look #3 being your favorite. There’s a bit of an L.A. vibe to that look as the inspiration came from the Los Angeles Lakers colors: Gold and purple. When I saw this high waist cargo mini skirt, the first thing that caught my attention was definitely its color. It’s in the military green family, which is suiting in anything cargo-based, but this shade is much lighter to which the brand, Unpublished Collection, has coined the color as cactus. This style hits right at your natural waist and fits comfortably through the hips. The raw hem detailing adds an effortless, casual feel. Anything utility-wise is super trending this summer, and this denim mini skirt is my latest obsession. You can pair it with a simple white tee, a black halter top, and more but I went with a more vibrant, summer hue.

When I think of a backless top, I immediately think of warmer seasons. It’s fine to wear it during the fall and winter season too with necessary layers but I find these kind of tops best for summer. They’re breathable and sexy, showing just the right amount of skin. This yellow top with the gathered sleeves make it such a good one. Can you believe this top is only $12?! That’s right! I love to find affordable pieces that look like top quality - kind of a treasure hunt for me. Lastly, I accessorized with bold ivory statement earrings that complement with my ivory bag, and a pair of snakeskin strappy sandals. Thanks for stopping by and checking out today’s post! My Midwest DNA has been infected with a Victorian flair. Today's post focuses on fusing the two together and where the inspiration is behind the look. A lot of you ask me what's my take on my personal style and here's my answer: Midwestern Rock n Roll mixed with European Chic. Since my visit to London, there has definitely been more of a British style within my looks. And what makes this blouse so fantastic along with it being purely chic? Comfort level 100. It's very wearable and makes me feel uber fashionable with it on. The blouse would also go well with a maxi skirt/dress but I styled it with a pair of wide leg jeans by DL1961, a New York City-based premium denim brand specializing in high-performance, sustainably manufactured denim that always offers a perfect fit. Katharine Hepburn's brazen style is reinterpreted with these aptly named wide legs. Its ultra high rise is fitted through the waist and butt, widening onwards from the thigh. Soft yet sturdy in 100% cotton, Slate is an old-school indigo wash with a heavily ravaged hem.

Accessories included in this look are Ana Luisa earrings (limited edition only, which makes them all the more special and unique), my favorite Gucci belt, and a pair of rose gold metallic boots from Ego. I also pulled my hair back into a ponytail because of the statement top. A little styling tip from me, to keep a 'busier' piece like this blouse well-balanced and not over the top, slick the hair back to focus attention on the shirt rather than the face. Earrings can sometimes be too much, especially with the hair down in a look as such.

What do you guys think of this mixed styled look? To clarify (for some), I grew up in the Midwest, in that it's something in my blood, not just a taste in a style I tend to gravitate towards to naturally... and as to what city? Motown baby! Fun fact: The Oldies is probably one of my favorite genres of music, on top of Rock and the Blues. I've always like to hear about where others are from because you can then have a better grasp to their personal style and taste. It's in all of us, and I think it's such a wonderfully cultural thing.

As to what I did this weekend? Aside from the usual brunch and my birthday (please no, I love you all but I'm really not into mine... hence the quietness about it.) I actually did a fun video shoot with a pretty well-known K Beauty brand on Saturday and am excited to share it with you soon!
